Kandinsky Circles

We have a huge front window we love painting on
Usually we paint whatever we're feeling,
but this time I thought it would be fun to try some
Kandinsky Circles
I drew squares on the window with washable marker
and
set out fingerpaint
(I love how translucent it is on the window)

I told the girls we'd be painting circles in the squares and painted an example,
They did a much better job than I did
I love how it turned out!
Miss C moved from square to square completing a little bit at a time
Look at the little circles she made!
Every square turned out different even though we used the same paint for each one
Miss C snapped a rare picture of me getting in on the action
:)
Here is our finished window!
It faces the east and I love waking up in the morning and seeing the light shining through
I never want to wash it off!
Have you done Kandinsky circles with your little one?

  1. Let me try this post again :)

I really love this - it is beautiful. I absolutely love the colors and circles!! Did you use just plain, any brand of finger paint? I am going to let my girls do this and they will be in shock when I let them paint on the windows. Any other helpful hints for this "non-loving messy art projects momma" ???

    Thanks!!!

    1. Hi Jennifer!
Any fingerpaint should do. We use Colorations brand but have used Crayola in the past and it works just as well.
If you want, you can add a squirt of dishwashing liquid to the paint to aid in cleanup but it makes the paint a bit runny so I didn't add any to ours.
If you're worried about the mess make sure everything in the surrounding area is covered, give your girls a small amount of paint to start, and put smocks on them. Also put a drop cloth on the floor, my girls dropped their paintbrushes several times.
      Most importantly
      HAVE FUN!! :)

  2. How beautiful! What a wonderful way to teach your little ones to express themselves through art and that there is no right or wrong way to do it!

  4. ooh these look awesome!
I am really drawn to circles of colour for some reason, so often find myself drawing or painting them and my kids putting their own spin on the idea.

We've only just put in some huge floor to ceiling windows so I am not sure I am ready to paint on them just yet... but give them a week to get filthy and I'm sure to change my mind! LOL
